Robotic Dog, Autonomous Drone and AI: ICON Takes Security to the Next Level

Budapest, June 29, 2026 – A robotic dog patrolling the corridors. A drone taking off autonomously in the darkness of night. A camera that can “sense” a fire even before flames appear. What once seemed like science fiction is now becoming part of the everyday security operations serving the clients of ICON Real Estate Management. The company is deploying four complementary technologies to enhance the protection of people and property.

The robotic dog that doesn’t bark – it raises the alarm

ICON’s security and protection services have recently been complemented by a four-legged “colleague”: a robotic dog equipped with a built-in GPS system that continuously patrols predefined routes without human intervention. But the device is capable of much more. Its posture analysis function can identify critical human situations, such as a developing physical confrontation or a person lying or crouching on the ground, which may also indicate a sudden medical emergency. It automatically responds to environmental sounds indicating a potential emergency, such as breaking glass, shouting or calls for help. It can also independently verify and process signals received from other systems, including fire alarms, access control systems and security technology devices.

The solution is the result of the coordinated operation of complex technologies: technology partners provide the hardware and robotics infrastructure, as well as the underlying data-processing and analytical software, while ICON adapts and fine-tunes the system to the actual operating environment and specific professional requirements. ICON defines the patrol routes and behavioural logic, as well as the criteria based on which the development company precisely configures the robot’s sensors.

The drone that keeps watch day and night

ICON’s technology toolkit also includes an automated drone pilot that can take off completely autonomously from its base without human presence, providing continuous aerial surveillance over large, difficult-to-monitor logistics sites. The drone can be deployed both in broad daylight and in complete darkness: its wide-angle camera provides a comprehensive view of the area, while its zoom camera can accurately identify license plates. Its built-in thermal camera can reliably detect human presence even at night. A powerful onboard spotlight and an AI-powered alert system ensure that unauthorized intruders can be identified quickly, while the drone guard can also use its built-in loudspeaker to instruct unauthorized persons to leave the premises.

The growing adoption of electric vehicles is creating entirely new fire-safety challenges for multi-storey car parks and underground garages. Hungary’s rapidly expanding fleet of fully electric vehicles and the fast-growing charging network have introduced a previously less common risk: thermal runaway in batteries. This process begins with localized heat generation and initially produces neither smoke nor flames. By the time the problem becomes visible to the naked eye or detectable by conventional sensors, it is often already too late.

Thermal imaging surveillance addresses this safety gap by continuously analysing even minimal changes in surface temperature rather than looking for smoke. This means the system can detect the earliest signs of overheating. It distinguishes between normal and abnormal temperature levels and can issue an alert before a critical condition develops, or even shut down charging according to predefined parameters. In this way, the focus shifts from extinguishing fires to preventing them in the first place.

AI-powered video analytics capable of detecting up to 150 types of incidents

The fourth element of ICON’s technology arsenal takes the potential of camera systems to a new level. ICON uses an AI-powered video analytics system that analyses camera footage in real time and automatically filters out suspicious or abnormal events. If the software detects an assault, accident, physical confrontation, unauthorized intrusion or another potentially hazardous situation, it immediately sends an alert. This means security personnel no longer have to monitor dozens of screens simultaneously, allowing them to respond more quickly and in a more targeted manner when intervention is required.

A major advantage of the server-side solution is that it can be seamlessly integrated with existing camera systems, eliminating the need to replace the entire security infrastructure. State-of-the-art algorithms can distinguish between more than 150 different types of incidents and behaviours, while the AI system can also be trained to monitor and analyse additional behavioural patterns, further maximizing the effectiveness of property protection and personal safety.
